Understanding Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

What is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor consists of a group of muscles, ligaments, connective tissue in the bowl of your pelvis that supports your bladder, uterus, and rectum. Dysfunction in the tissues can lead to leaking of urine or stool, incomplete emptying, pelvic or low back pain, pain with sexual activity or vaginal heaviness. These are common problems women may experience but they are not considered normal. It is important to see a Therapist if you experience any of these. A pelvic health therapist can also support you during your pregnancy and postpartum journey whether you have had a vaginal or c-section birth.

Empowerment Through Education

Education is a key component of our approach. We believe that understanding your body and the pelvic floor can empower you to take an active role in your recovery. We provide guidance on proper techniques for daily activities, as well as exercises you can perform at home. By equipping you with the knowledge and tools to manage your condition, we aim to foster long-term health and well-being.

Holistic Approach to Pelvic Health

Factors such as stress, nutrition and overall wellness can significantly impact pelvic function. We may incorporate strategies like mindfulness, breathing exercises and lifestyle recommendations to address these aspects. This comprehensive approach not only aids in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction but also enhances your overall quality of life, promoting a sense of balance and well-being. Our goal is to help you achieve lasting results and a deeper understanding of your body's capabilities.
